Spices Board under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Government of India is the regulatory organization for the development and worldwide promotion of Indian spices. The Spice Board works to connect the Indian exporters to the spice importers abroad.
Under the Spices Board Act 1986, the spice board was formed. This was done by the government with the merger of erstwhile Cardamom Board, 1968 and Spices Export Promotion Council 1960. The Spices Board in India is one of the five Commodity Boards functioning under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. The Spice Board is the main body responsible for the export promotion of the 52 scheduled spices and development of Cardamom. The Spice Board certification mandates that all the businesses must commence or carry on the business of export of any spice except under and in accordance with a certificate. The following is the list of spices which are enlisted in the Spice Board-:

Cardamom, Pepper, Chilly, Ginger, Turmeric, Coriander, Cumin, Fennel, Fenugreek, Celery, Aniseed, Bishopsweed, Caraway, etc.

Objectives of forming the Spice Board

  • To support the import and export of spices in India.
  • Maintenance and monitoring of the quality of exports.
  • To offer better production methods, through scientific, technological and economic research.
  • Encouraging organic production and export of spices.
  • Facilitating infrastructure for processing and value addition.
  • To encourage farmers to use better harvesting technologies and seeds. And provide financial and material support to growers.
  • To assist in studies and research on better processing practices, foolproof quality management systems, improved grading methods, and effective packaging techniques.
  • Production of promotional and educative materials in a variety of media for the benefit of exporters and importers.

  • PAN card
  • Identity proof
  • Passport size photographs
  • Duly filled application form in prescribed format
  • Import Export Code (IEC) copy of the business
  • Bank Account copy
  • The balance sheet of the company
  • Self-certified copy of Partnership deed/ Memorandum and Articles of Association as the case may be
  • Self-certified copy of GST registration certificate
  • Self-attested certificate issued by the directorate of industries in case of manufacturer-exporter of spices
